Remembering Zelda

Young child in a red hospital gown lying in bed, smiling with arms behind head, next to a colorful plush toy with gem-like buttons.

On Sunday, December 31st, our Heavenly Father called home Zelda Smith following complications from a short battle with leukemia. Zelda was spunky, independent, and active. She loved to read, sing, and play with her big sisters, and she loved her birds (she said the ducks barked). Zelda was a sweet little girl who was inquisitive and so adventurous. She was strong like her biggest sister and kind like her middle sister. Zelda would have turned four in February.

A young child with curly blonde hair smiling while sitting at a library table. Beside the child is a tall figure made from yellow and orange building blocks, resembling a bird, and a colorful bead maze toy. In the background, there are shelves filled with children's books.
Child in yellow hoodie and blue boots hugging a green lamppost, smiling, on a paved path at night with plants in the background.
A young child sitting on a chair holds a donut with chocolate frosting in one hand. The child wears a yellow and colorful patterned shirt and is sitting outdoors. A red plate rests on the child's lap.
Child wearing reindeer antlers stands in front of a nativity scene backdrop depicting Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus.

In lieu of flowers, the Smiths are requesting that friends and family consider supporting Carter’s Foundation. Carter’s Foundation provided support and care during the family’s time in the hospital, and the Smiths would be honored if you would help share this kindness and support with other children fighting cancer and their parents. Financial donation information is below. For those attending Zelda’s memorial, please consider bringing a new stuffed animal, toy, or book that will be donated to bring smiles to other children in the hospital.
